We offer a range of workshops for Early Years Settings and Primary Schools intended to broaden and enrich your curriculum.

All aim to be in support of the Excellence and Enjoyment, Healthy Schools and Every Child Matters initiatives as well as the Government's Education Outside the Classroom Manifesto.

All workshops delivered  by an experienced First School Governor,  CRB cleared.

Shelter Building

"Our shelter building workshop was a brilliant afternoon.  The kids explored lots of different materials and used their own ideas to build shelters, each different in their own special way.  The children learnt to work as a team, talk about ideas and decisions and put everything they had learnt in their building topic into a real context.  They loved every minute.  Thank you!"

Jen Wilkinson, Reception teacher, Longhoughton C of E First School

Creative Thinking and Problem Solving

"The problem solving day was fantastic:  the learning objectives were clearly explained to the children, and the tasks structured so that the group had to collaborate with each other.

The children had the opportunity  to be creative and  to think "out of the box".  Their ideas were imaginative and inspirational."

Mary Rothwell, Head Teacher, Grange View First School

Experiential exercises indoors and outdoors, to challenge and develop children’s creativity and problem solving skills. We seek to enhance children’s social, emotional and behavioural skills using structured review and reflection. Equipment and materials provided.

Winter Mountain Rescue

The school mascot has gone on an adventure to Scotland and is in trouble. What can the children do to help? We look at weather, clothing and equipment, and use the Internet to research the local Mountain Rescue Team.  We demonstrate a full size rescue stretcher, the use of ropes and pulleys and set up a ropeway (grounds permitting). Children make rescue plans in groups then design and manufacture rescue equipment.  Links to Geography, D and T, ICT and Science.

Map Making and Photo Orienteering

Children learn about different types of maps and create their own map of the school.  Using a pre-prepared map and photographs, they search around the grounds finding and marking photo locations.  Still and video cameras can be used to enhance the session.  Additional orienteering activities are available.
